Yusay-Consing Mansion

Thank you for APEC 2015 because it has brought some good changes in the city. Roads were wider and more presentable, more business and leisure opportunities for the Ilonggos, and more ways to showcase our heritage. One of such ways is the opening of the preserved Yusay-Consing Mansion in Molo, Iloilo City.

And thank goodness for this opportunity because I got to take a break from posting about food. Heheh.

I really, really love old houses, especially those built during the Spanish period because I can feel the grandeur and the old-world feels it gives me. Whenever I see an old house, my brain begins to imagine the way life back then and be transported in time. I never get tired of hearing or reading stories about the previous owners of these houses, or even those in the history books. They are just plain interesting.

Oh and back to the Yusay-Consing Mansion.

It is located in front of Molo Plaza and St. Anne's church. Built in the 1920s, the Yusay-Consing Mansion was originally owned by Doña Petra Lacson-Yusay.  It was later handed down to the family of Timoteo Consing Sr., who served as Iloilo governor from 1935-1937.

From time to time I pass by this place and although it used to be so neglected it still has that grandeur inherent to old mansions. It's nice to know that some people are preserving our history, albeit turning it into a business venture. This will be an opportunity to encourage the youth to be patriotic and appreciate our history.

Mid last year, SM Land Inc. bought the property to be preserved and turned into a Heritage museum and cultural retail shop which will showcase the best of Ilonggo arts, crafts and, and delicacies.
