Takuri Cafe: Feel At Home

Hidden amongst the maze-like streets in Brgy. Cuartero, Jaro is a homey cafe which serves Malaysian coffee, home-cooked oriental dishes I assumed that were collected from the owners' travels, and local desserts that are just so yummy. The name's Takuri Cafe.

The owner, Tita Daisy, is such a welcoming beautiful woman that she talks about just anything as though you have known each other for so long. Which is a great trait actually. She has been living in some Southeast Asian countries for many years so she has knowledge in their cuisine. So when she decided to convert their sala into a cafe and offer Malaysian coffee and Satay initially, little did she know that it will become a hit. And she's the one either shopping (yes abroad), preparing, cooking, or overseeing whatever happens both in the kitchen and dining area. And not only is she a great cook, but she also paints and is a member of the Iloilo Photographic Society. Wow!

beside the logo of Takuri is Tita Daisy's painting

The cafe is quaint and charming, with decors I presumed were from abroad. We went there at lunchtime and thankfully we were the only ones present (aside from the couple who were already enjoying their in-the-house maja blanca). Some days the place could get fully-packed or closed due to corporate meetings or events, or just some private functions.

Upon entering you'll be greeted by the counter bedecked with takuris in dainty designs. I just had enough control to touch and settle myself in taking pictures of them. Hihi. Maybe Tita Daisy had collections of these takuris because she initially intended just to serve Malaysian coffee.

Menu

I ordered the soup Kway Teow, which is some kind of seafood soup with rice noodles and egg. I didn't order from their set meal because I was in a diet and I don't want to eat rice. Haha. But my companions ordered Pork Humba and it was delicious according to them.

Oh and while we were waiting for our food to arrive, we were served with Maja Blanca topped with toasted coconut meat. It was yummy and the maja was not watery. I love it!

And because I want to try it all as long as my diet permits (hehe), I also ordered the Vietnamese Spring Roll, where you could taste the freshness (and healthiness. haha) and the sauce was just too good.

And also because whenever I stalk the cafe's Facebook page I always see the Carrot Cake, So naturally I ordered it. It was yummy, though a little bit too sweet for me.

Also a must-try that we had that day was the orange juice. Yep, Orange Juice. Because it was not your ordinary orange juice. Maybe it was a juice from abroad but it was good and refreshing. You may want to order it with less sugar though. When I get back, I'll be ordering the Satay (it was unavailable that day because Tita Daisy took some rest in skewering because she got pricked by the skewers), some more desserts, the lubid-lubid with Malaysian coffe, and whatever's in the menu =). Oh and they serve sushi on Saturdays.

And you might be wondering where it is located, because even us had a hard time looking for it. It's in Brgy. Cuartero, Jaro. When commuting, ride a tricycle parked in the stoplight near Jaro I Elementary School (near SM Savemore Jaro) and just tell the driver to drop you off at Takuri. Below is the direction posted in the cafe's official Facebook page

If you are from jaro cathedral take the road going to Jaro cemetery.. .then turn left on the fourth corner which has a signage that goes "Aguana dental clinic"just go straight ahead youll find us there.

Or you might ride a Light of Glory Taxi because most of the drivers know where the cafe is. Goodluck!
